He has negotiated and closed transactions for clients acquiring, selling, or leasing many types of properties, including office, multi-family, industrial and retail properties. His experience ranges from hotels, shopping centers, medical offices, mobile home parks and churches to doughnut shops, office buildings, and a country club and golf course. His representation includes counseling clients on the purchase of real estate as well as business acquisitions. He has also represented local and national lenders for many years. This work includes loan documentation, regulatory assistance, and closing of loan transactions. He has extensive experience as local counsel in multi-state loan closings. He also represents lenders in commercial foreclosures of income-producing properties and has written and spoken on this subject for state and local bar organizations. Mert’s practice also encompasses construction work, including recovery of claims for contractors under mechanics’ liens and payment bonds. He has authored a chapter for the Kansas Bar Association real estate handbook on the subject of mechanics’ liens. He has also advised clients in negotiation of construction contracts for development of commercial and residential properties. He has been selected by other attorneys to serve as an arbitrator and an expert witness in real estate disputes.
